Did you know 1 in 5 of us don’t get enough sleep?
Sleep plays a huge role in our overall health and goes hand in hand with gut health (get the full lowdown here) so it’s important we do everything we can to give ourselves the best chance possible of getting a good nights sleep. Our pals over at Piglet in Bed were kind enough to share all the info on why you might consider investing in some linen bedding to help you do just that…
If you haven’t experienced the delights of sleeping in linen you might be left wondering what all of the fuss is about. At Piglet in Bed, we cannot speak of its praises highly enough and truly believe you will struggle to find the same level of all-year-round comfort with alternative materials. Why don’t you grab a hot cup of tea and sit back and relax as we reveal to you why this ancient textile with rather magical qualities is the ideal material for sleeping in.
Typically, linen receives its glory throughout the summer months, but it is in fact the ideal fabric for use all-year-round. Due to its moisture-wicking capabilities, linen dries very quickly ensuring your sleep isn’t disturbed during hot summer nights where you might perspire more. The nature of linen’s weave ensures that air is able to flow through, keeping you gently cool. This does also mean it’s a wonderful fabric to sleep in during the chilly winter months too, keeping you toasty and warm once the temperatures drop.
Linen is an expensive material to produce owing to the fact it is made in small quantities and flax is a hard fibre to work with, requiring a great amount of skill. While linen sheets will cost more than synthetic fabrics initially, it will also long outlive non-natural alternatives that will need replacing after a couple of years. When good quality linen made from European flax is cared for properly (which is minimal you’ll be pleased to hear!) your linen can last for decades, ensuring less waste and ultimately less consumption. It’s worth considering the cost-per-sleep ratio on that basis.
Linen is made from the fibres of the flax plant, a blue flowered crop which is most commonly found across Western Europe. Every part of this pretty (but mighty) plant is used within linen production so there is zero wastage across the process. It also requires minimal fertiliser and very little additional water given it relies on natural irrigation – rainwater. It’s also completely biodegradable so eventually after plenty of years of love and passing down to the next generation, the fabric will biodegrade naturally rather than sitting in landfill.
Linen has ‘ageing’ down to a fine art. Not only does it look better after use and washing, the fabric also gets softer with time. You needn’t worry about pilling or your bedding looking tired if you opt for a linen option. The nature of linen fabric is that it absorbs moisture, which deepens with each wash, making it softer each time you nestle into fresh bedding.
This also means your lovely new linen bedding will last for many years to come and eventually be passed down to the next generation for ongoing love and use.

Being naturally hypoallergenic, linen is ideal for all skin types, especially those who may have sensitive skin or allergies. The natural fibres within linen help to suppress bacteria too.
Okay, so this one might not be scientifically-based, however one we must point out. We have over 35 colour options within our linen collection, across plains, stripes and ginghams, so there really is an option for any style of decor – it looks heavenly, wherever placed.
Linen’s natural crinkles evoke a relaxed feel in your bedroom and help you to see the nuance of the colour, conjuring a sense of calm similar to that found when you spend time in nature. Better yet, these soft crinkles also mean linen sheets are super easy to care for as any efforts to iron them would be in vain. Less time spent worrying about ironing equals more time spent on the moments that matter – or sleeping, either works for us.
